Cain's iPod
Poor Cain from Nelson was only 14 years old when he was scammed on TradeMe. He'd saved his pocket money for ages and finally won a 20Gb iPod auction. Unfortunately it turned out to be a cynical scam.
He turned to TradeMe for help, but they promptly disabled him for being too young to trade.
From left: Karen, Cain & his mum Moira.
ScamBusters' member Karen discovered his plight and helped to coordinate a donation fund which raised enough money to buy Cain a brand new iPod. He was delighted.
With help from a number of our members - notably Checkpal - the Police eventually arrested one Alexandre Firioubine. The scammer was found guilty and ordered to repay Cain's money. As he already had a new iPod, Cain donated the money to Child Cancer.
Thanks to Karen and everyone who contributed to this good cause.
