Re: Suspicous and Fake Flash Drives

It's a rerun of an earlier unsold auction (with a question & response about the capacity).

Auction implied he has more than one to sell.

Did you complain to have these removed, or is Trademe actually doing something right?

Re: Warning: CryptoLocker Virus via email

I will state the obvious about this virus. I doesn't infect Apple Macs It doesn't infect Android It doesn't infect Linux It only infects Micro$oft Windows. Cryptolocker is just one of a number of variants, called ransomware. And (depending on who you listen to) it comes with 100,000 or more malware ...

Re: Microsoft - Again!!

For fun, and as a learning exercise, I have recently (like yesterday) installed an x86 build of Android tablet onto an Acer laptop. Runs without fault except for the camera. Non touch screen, but the touchpad or a conventional mouse works. This is being done by some to give old laptops a new lease o...

Re: Microsoft - Again!!

Yes, I really wondered about this when I read the original stories. By upgrading to a "genuine" version built on rotten foundations this will allow Microsoft the ability to control the computer (using Windows Genuine Advantage or similar), and demand payment for the non existent license. I forsee ma...

Re: Microsoft Windows 7 & Windows 8 Auctions

I am a highly regarded computer technician.
Buying keys off a trading site is not the expected behaviour of this class of person.

That said, good on him for going for the jugular of a shonky trader (and Trademe, if I read the implied threat correctly). Watch this space.

An Own Goal

Panda antivirus software labels itself as malware

Highly amusing for those of us who don not have computers infected with Windows.

If this has happened to you, DO NOT FOLLOW THE STANDARD PROCEDURE OF RESTARTING THE COMPUTER. This risks data loss.

The Cost

I've written in the past about the possible costs of this spying. It's official: NSA spying is hurting the US tech economy China is no longer using high-profile US technology brands for state purchases, amid ongoing revelations about mass surveillance and hacking by the US government. A new report c...

Re: ANZ Phishing Scams

The file appears to have been stripped from the site which still allows viewing of file structure.

ionet you are still receiving these. I haven't seen one in my email for years so I guess the crooks have taken me off their list, or my ISP's spam filter must be catching them.

Romania Cleans Its Act Up!

As long time readers of this site will know Trademe was afflicted by huge numbers of Romanian phone scammers in the early 2000's. Trademe got their act together on this many years ago, but the scammers were never caught, largley because of the corruption within the Romanian system. I now see that nu...

A second report on this suggests the total is 1 billion.

Article here.

Whatever the real total is, this has been hugely remunerative.

In an allied story the claim is made that there areonly 100 cyber criminals worlwide involved in this.
