Fake and Suspicious Memory Cards on Trademe

Fake copies of Microsoft Office, operating systems, memory cards and flash drives, fake designer clothing... anything of that nature. At any given time TM offers thousands of fake itmes which breach their terms & conditions... and often do little about the problem. This is the place to discuss the issue.

Despite a successful sale and listing this card with the line...
Last Unit to go, hence we are using $1 reserve auction.
trademe.mobile has offered another card to watchers at $52. Not really the "last unit" then?

My favourite photography site carries this alert: Warning: Watch Out for Fake Memory Cards on eBay

If you're surprised by the volume of fake memory cards being sold on TradeMe and eBay, then check this out. According to a SanDisk engineer
...at any given time, approximately a third of the SanDisk memory cards (made by Toshiba) being used out there in the world are counterfeit. As in, not SanDisk memory cards at all—some other kind of cards dressed up as lookalikes.
Use your common sense folks. If it seem too cheap to be true, it's almost certainly a fake.

A good article that other sites should also warn of but one paragraph is not good advise:
If you do decide to turn to eBay, make sure the seller has done a huge number of transactions with very positive feedback from other photographers
Most buyers leave FB shortly after checking that they camera recognizes it OK.
it can take days or weeks for them to realize their files have been corrupted.

it is not possible to edit a feedback on eBay from positive to negative.

Even buyers who initially leave negative FB are coerced into removing it usually through a full refund without having to send the card back.
A high FB rating and transaction volume does almost nothing to guarantee that a particular seller don't send counterfeit goods.

an Ebay seller here has sold 150 units of a 256GB micro card for a ludicrous US$20.
That quantity is not including all the other fake size cards they have sold yet this member has over 50,000 FB`s with a 99.9% rating.

It won't be long before these are offered as fakes on Trademe.

SanDisk's 200GB microSDXC Card
The price ($230 USD) is surprisingly tame and the Class 10 speed promises sufficiently aggressive performance

After decades of declining costs and soaring capacities, flash smartphones have finally reached a crucial milestone, with microSDXC solid state storage capacity finally topping the mechanical hard disk drive (HDD) solutions found antiquated, but beloved personal music player (PMP) models of years past.
Knock offfs will be offered.
Google, the answer to so many questions!
