Fake and Suspicious Memory Cards on Trademe

Fake copies of Microsoft Office, operating systems, memory cards and flash drives, fake designer clothing... anything of that nature. At any given time TM offers thousands of fake itmes which breach their terms & conditions... and often do little about the problem. This is the place to discuss the issue.

OK Googlybear , Sad to think even now, many buyers have duds but don't know it unless they run theses tests.
I have just bought a dud and now will never buy a memory card again online. The local shop can have the extra $$$ for a stress-less purchase. BUT, is there any info here, in this 29 odd page forum thread (so far) or elsewhere which has links to simple test software downloads and lists some simple clues on how to tell duds from genuine ones?
I have just learnt that Windows can NOT tell true capacity and only found this out when I tested my 64MB by loading 100's and 100's of files on to see. Looser! I am but I will have my revenge.
I did this test first to see if it was truly a 64GB and when that failed tried youtube to find out what everyone should know and test their new purchase. I was shocked to find out the lengths these ** will go to ripping us off. "How to test your SD card or USB Flash drive using FakeFlashtest (v2)" on youtube is the best (although shocking) is a must watch if you really want to know if your SD card is what it says.

Hey John... welcome to ScamBusters. The sheer number of fake cards being sold on TradeMe these days is mind-boggling. TM don't seem interested in policing their own listings and prefer to let people like us report fake cards.

The best testing software is h2testw though there may be other utilities I don't know about. If so, users who have used and tested flash-testing programmes are welcome to post them here.

And if you get a moment John, we'd love to know which TM seller you purchased the fake card from.

There is still so many of these unbranded hacked size cards on Trademe.
Normally they are only 64GB size so TM ignores any CW`s but this obvious fake should prompt them to pull it.
With almost 100% of cards in this generic packaging being fake capacity, TM should just outright ban all of them being listed.

nzextremedeal still has two fake cards listed (link in the post above) but they've gone into TM limbo so are not accessible to viewers.

The nzextremedeal listings went from limbo to withdrawn as they closed. I guess it's the TM equivalent of the naughty corner.

here`s another seller with the `upgraded memory` scam

256GB Micro SD card with free adapter
http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-ph ... 284811.htm
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =970140756

http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-ph ... 021649.htm
- Sold for $49.50 -

http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-ph ... 025680.htm
- Sold for $49.50 -

These brand new Micro SD cards have been tested and may vary in storage capacity, but are all listed as good and hold up to 256GB.
Please note that whilst these cards are brand new, they are sold as upgraded cards and therefore the capacity and speed may vary for each card. They may experience read/write errors once max capacity reached but can be easily re-formatted.

As with any data device, please ensure all data is backed up, we cannot be held responsible for any lost data.
