How to list a Domain, but not list a Domain

Shill bidding, contact details in auctions… anything that’s not a scam per se but breaches TM’s terms and conditions.

Perhaps the coffee doesn't slide down the hatch as well with trying to sell these things from the Southern Alps, and such an impressive glowing feedback record as on Account #1 ;-)

It's Oli Hille using a new ID but pedaling the same old bullshit. Check out
his math on this auction for the sections.co.nz domain.
Sections.co.nz Domain Name $5m Profit Business NZ

Trademe currently has 14,155 sections listed.
Harcourts has thousands (you cant see the exact number).
www.realestate.co.nz has 16,845 sections listed.

There is no one place in NZ you can list and search for a section only.

Lets say there are 30,000 sections for sale at any one time, and that you
can charge $49 for a three month listing.

That makes 30,000 x $49 x 4 times a year = $5.88 million of potential
income per year
from a site that only sells sections!

Er... Oli. That assumes that everyone selling a section in NZ lists with
your site. And that you've invested enough funds to out-advertise
TradeMe, Harcourts etc. Oli has owned that domain for almost ten years.
Has it made $50m for him yet? Nope. There's not even a website for your
$25k. How come? Well Oli is too busy, apparently.
If I had the time I would do it myself, but having just come back from
nine weeks in Europe I have decided that I have to concentrate on my
Currencies and Commodities business - SolomonWealthFund.com
Apparently this new venture will be...
"Trading Public Funds and Managed Accounts from 1 January 2011"
Oli must know what he's doing...
Average Annual Return: 190.80%
Wow! Not even Bernie Madoff could produce those sorts of profits.

Finally let's hear Oli's vision for the company.
The vision of Solomon Wealth Fund is to build God’s kingdom on earth by
successfully managing funds. The profits can then be used to do God’s
will on earth to promote peace, life, health, a good standard of living, and
spiritual wellbeing for every person on earth.
Yeah right!

Trader ezykiwi is being too cheeky. He's paid to list one domain then squeezed
22 other domains into the sale.

yeh was my bad on that one, I wasnt even trying to be cheeky(which is unlike me in general) .... where does it say it can only be for one name? nowhere during the process of listing id I see it, and Ive listed multiple domains before so i just went with that.

Ive since been in contact with the trademe staff and they say as long as i advertise at a set price for all of them, is someone makes contact just wanting to buy one domain id have to just relist that as a auction *which would be fine*

Just from my point of view I think it could be abit more clearly labeled on the site..... totally happy to play within the rules just wasnt aware of them and cant even find anything in the FAQ's to help.

Is there any sites where you can put up portfolios of domains for sale other than trademe?

Cheers
Ezykiwi

Hi ezykiwi and welcome to ScamBusters. You're right... the FAQ has
no information on domain names at all. TM may want to look at
that. You're correct in saying that you can list multiple domains for
one fee, provided you sell them as one lot.

There are numerous sites that resell domains but most concentrate
on international names - see: http://www.sedo.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for example.

While I've had no dealings with them, you could have a look at this
site for selling a NZ domain: http://www.domainmasters.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
[ site now dead - 18.02.12]
Keep in mind that most of the prices there are extremely optimistic
in my opinion.

And just a tip... avoid nameboy.co.nz which has been mentioned on
these forums in the past. It's basically one person trying to sell his
own domains at highly inflated prices.

There are also dozens of "value your domain" sites but they're really
out of touch with reality in most cases. See http://www.swiftappraisal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for example, which values TradeMe.co.nz at $US460~700. I suspect
that Sam Morgan might disagree. By comparison it values our
domain at $US410-620. I know which one I'd rather own.

A search on TradeMe for domain names / highest price shows some
serious dreamers. Note that not one of those auctions has any bids
at the moment, and it's rare to see any high value names actually sell
on TM.

Cheers mate,

Yeh thats what annoyed me abit, TM removed my auction and I didnt even get a email advising why, so I had to contact them, and the reply I got kinda implied i was doing something wrong but not what... so then had to reask what I was actually doing wrong, which im happy to change but yeh there is very little detail about domains on there... stupid me was kinda under the impression that a classified could be open to any number ... as im paying the set fee to list.... maybe they could alter there system to instead of having a description field simply have a domain name field for one name... or something that makes it alot more understandable that its for only 1.

Yeh ive see those sites you mentioned and from what i saw i had similar thoughts/views on them..... i see in the uk they even have domain brokers.... like a organization ... thats interesting logic :)

nearly best to just put a ad in the newspaper i reckon :) great site you have here too by the way... loads of awesome content :) and google is indexing it quick thats the only reason i stumbled on it :)

Ta! Google likes us... maybe because we've been around for a while, and maybe
because they view our forums as a bit of an authority when you search for info on
TradeMe scams.

I think that TM should pay attention to your comments. Naive traders shouldn't
be caught out by lack of information. TM visit these forums regularly and I hope
that they'll pay attention to what you've said. It'll make their site a better place
for the average punter.

By the way, I wouldn't sell your domain names as a full package. You won't see
much of a return in any market. Better to optimise them one at a time so that
they gain a Google ranking, then flick the good ones. But then, I guess that
costs money as well if you want to do it right.

We live in an increasingly commercialised cyberspace.

So you put together an X-cart site hoping to sell computers, but it didn't really work. The domain expires
in a couple of weeks and you've decided that it's not worth spendng another $20 to renew it. What do you
do? Stick it on TM of course. But listing a domain name costs money, doesn't it.

Not if you stick it under "computers" and hope that nobody notices!
http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/othe ... 757104.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I reckon his price of $3,000 (yes, that's three grand) is hugely optiistic.

The seller is asjadaan who calls himself "AS IS" on his profile. There's also a little "God" stuff in his profile
and one of his FBs says "he go on about god". Hmmm.
