Steam mops: Is this shill bidding

Shill bidding, contact details in auctions… anything that’s not a scam per se but breaches TM’s terms and conditions.

Steam mops: Is this shill bidding

Post by gustov » Thu May 12, 2011 4:47 am

A trader "qualione" lists half a dozen steam mops almost everyday, each with a $1 reserve. Most of the auctions only run for a day or two (examples: 375869963, 375869926, 375869903, 375869885, )

What is curious is that another trader "porscheman" is bidding on all the auctions, with a starting bid of at least $70-$80, often (but not always) before any other bids have been placed.

I find it curious anyone would bid $70 straight-off when the reserve is $1, and that they bid on every steam mop auction that "qualione" lists, including I think some earlier in the week.

Curiously, "porscheman" 's profile has him living on the Chatham islands. Is there a steam mop epidemic in the Chathams, or is this shill bidding?

This seller "qualione" also lists a lot of Freeview satellite receivers for $1 and there seems to be similar sort of bidding going on there, by traders called "_maz_" and "grandvoyager" who leap in with $50 bids.

Interesting that porscheman

did the same thing with two other sellers, for electroic scales. Bought one set from classyladyno1, auction finished 1st March, but failed to complete five other trades for the same product from lmnl, whose auctions finished slightly later.
Possibly, it's not a shill, but a peron who does not realise how TM works, though in five years and 54 trades could learn (unless it's somebody new to TM using an old account).

grandvoyager, however, looks like a perfect shill to me, as he/she bought a lot of these receivers over the past few months from the same seller:
