cabalnz1, the scammer dosen't care if you give him the wrong price, he has no intention of paying you.

As an aside, I am being hammered by phishing emails trying to gain Paypal login credentials, together with credit card details. These can be used to "pay" via Paypal under this scam, the extra being sent on to cover shipping (the whole point of the scam). Unfortunately, the mug in the middle gets to carry the can with the debt, because the funds are stolen.

Two of the emails have arisen from xtra.co.nz. I've dropped them an email and suggested they get their customers computer disinfected, as it will be part of a botnet. Do they have the intelligence, or the will, to act?

My vehicle is listed on Trade Me and in the Trade & Exchange. T & E sent this request from sea.hagger15@gmail.com

"I am Simon Hagger and i will like to buy your vehicle for my business here, how much are you selling it for last price for me?,if the final price suits me i will be making the payment through NZ bank deposit.

Thanks.

Simon Hagger

The sender has specified the following reply address: sea.hagger15@gmail.com .

The email was sent via a form on the Trade & Exchange website. The sender does not currently know your email address but will if you reply.

Sender's IP: 115.188.128.156

I asked when would he like to view the vehicle and this was the reply.

"Thanks for your mail and confirmation, the price and condition of the
car is ok by me,i am currently in Malaysia and i am shipping the car
to Australia and i will arrange all shipment without you spending a
dime or stress you up on this, also the shipping company will only pick
up your car when you confirm to them that you have received your car
money from me..

Also, the only form of payment i can make for now is bank transfer
and i will be making the payment through bank transfer.please let me
know if that is ok by you so we can proceed and complete this
transaction asap,

I hope to hear from you soon,

Thanks,
Simon."

This was my reply:

"I've had three emails regarding purchasing this vehicle by people like yourself who say they're
in Malaysia, or on an oil rig. Do you think that I'm completely stupid? No one buys a vehicle
without viewing it first. F#$% off you scam artist and get a real job instead of ripping people off.
Contrary to what you think, I wasn't born yesterday."

Don't these losers have anything better to do than rip people off?

Some of these losers use gmail because it does not reveal the senders IP address. This is useful in getting a fix on the country of origin, but unfortunately nothing finer.

If you want to get an IP address, the ploy I have successfully used in the past is to email the crim and tell them your ISP is in oonflict with Google, and consequently you will no longer be able to keep up the contact. Ask them to switch to another email provider.

I've used this several times, it's worked every time. Remember, these clowns open email accounts by the drove, they will already have yahoo, hotmail and others.

Marine Engineer

Post by Foggyone » Fri Jul 08, 2011 7:10 pm

This group seems to be deeply involved in purchasing cars.if this search is anything to go on.

"I'm a marine engineer who's on a ship right now in Bahamas"

We may have discovered a hitherto unknown market segment for vehicles! This is valuable information and should be kept secret for our sole benefit.

Hi Sean and welcome to ScamBusters. You're right about repeated use of the same email addresses. You
would expect serious scammers to be a little more clever than this. But then as long as you pull in one
or more victims a week I guess you're making a comfortable living.

Hi there,

I have had the same problem but they are not saying they are from malaysia they are saying this:

Thanks for the mail. i would have loved to talk to you on phone, but due to the nature of my job as i work as am a marine engineer, and i mainly work offshore, our phone is down right now, but we can only communicate with our base for now. i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and your final asking price so i can make the payments asap for the car and please if you don't have a paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and get it set up, after you have set it up, i will only need the e-mail address that you use for the registration with paypal so as to put the money through.

PS: you can end the auction on the site yourself, you will see a place where u can end the auction and my pick up agent will come around to do the signing of all necessary documents on my behalf after the payment has been made.

Best Regards,
Tika

I told him that I wanted 10,000 for my vehicle because I am aware of this scam, My vehicle is worth about 4,000 and he emailed back saying he was fine with the price what is my paypal email address and so on I think people need to know about this and I am not the only person I know that this has happened to, my partners friend and also my brother but this man Tika is now the third person that had pulled the Im out on a boat and dont have internet banking I ended up emailing him and saying I know you are a scam and to go away and stop it he hasnt emailed back as of yet!! but these are the email addresses that they are emailing me off

kudaisi@yahoo.com
categate001@gmail.com
nancyscott07@hotmail.com

I just hope we can help other people out there
Thanks everyone
