Welcome to ScamBusters, James. We're getting more reports about this scam recently which suggests that the scammers are finding victims.

Of course TradeMe *could* easily ban all Malaysian IP ranges which would stop the scammers from even viewing the ads in the first place. As only NZ and AU members are allowed to trade on the site, it's difficult to know why they refuse to implement this simple measure which would make their site a safer place to trade.

I had the same experiance with this phone number and email.
Pretty much identical word for word emails etc.
I had my suspicions so googled keishabright29 and realised my time was being wasted so haven't continued with the email ping pong.
Bullshit

I have had the same scam pulled on me just a few days ago. Got a txt message from +60122375403 (malaysia)
Asking if my vehicle was still for sale that i had put on trade and exchange the night before.
The email i was to contact jesslath01@hotmail.com tried to get me to send $2200.00 to him for shipping!
What a joke! There last email said the money had left there account imediatly and was now in the hands on paypal, which was not the case.People like these scum bags don't deserve to use the internet.

Hi

I just had the same scam pulled by this cell number 0060122375403 and a woman calling her self Trissha Foxx (email trishia_foxx@yahoo.com)
for my Harley Davidson Motorcycle I am selling on trade me.

Here are the content of the emails up until I refered her to this site and said I'm a little worried...no reply surprise surprise!!

(me to her last email start at bottom and read up to here)
Hi I am a little worried about the Malaysia buyer as I have just read this:

http://scambusters.co.nz/forum/viewtopi ... 44&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

How do I know you are not one of these people?

(her)
i am okay with that so give me the final price for the harley sportster and your paypal email address with the full name on the paypal account,so that i can transfer the funds now

(me)
I'm happy to use PayPal, it looks O.k. But you will need to pay the Paypal fees which I think are 2.9% etc and freight of course.
Sounds great to me.

(her)
PayPal is the best online transfer or receiving of money into someone's account, you register with PayPal account with your bank details or credit card,so any transfer you made with your PayPal goes through to your bank account,it is free, safe and reliable.
After you have registered for PayPal account, all i need is just the full name with the email address of the PayPal account to transfer the fund into your bank account that you link up with your PayPal account,it is just as simple as that.
For more information visit http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(me)
How would it work via paypal? I am very trustworthy as you can see from my feedback on trade me.

(her)
I can only conclude this transaction only via paypal,i have been burnt via cheque and bank transfer before, that is why i selected paypal(http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.) as a mode of payment because paypal is the best online payment,so both of us could be on the safer side,i am a woman of integrity.i am honest and don`t cheat people out of their money,i own my company that have a 25 number of people working for me,awaiting your decision because i really need to pursue this buy sincerely.
Thanks

(me)
I am not sure, have you done anything like this before? Only thing I can think of is you pay the money into my account, or send me bank cheque, then you arrange to get a Motorcycle Transport company to collect the bike and take it to the nearest port to crate it and ship to Malaysia.

I did the same thing some years ago with a high value ($4000-00) guitar, guy paid me the money then he arranged for an international courier to collect from me once the funds were clear and deliver to Australia.

There were delays with the courier in transit but it all went O.k. Hope that helps

(her)
Thanks for the pictures and i am really interested in buying it and i want to go ahead with the purchase so how should we proceed now

(me)
Hello Trishia

Here are a few more pictures of the bike.

Regards

(her)
Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, I am pleased with your price but I want you to get back to me with more pictures of it because i am presently in Malaysia on business trip and could not come over to check it out,but no worries as i am willing to handle the pick up of this bike through a legitimate shipping agent based in Malaysia it will be picked up after payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need this bike urgently. Hope to read from you asap.

(my reply to her initial text message)
Hi Tricia

yes just relisted the bike last night at a low price, only as I have a neck injury (not from bike) and ACC has just refused my neurosurgeon's request for an operation so I have to sell it as I just cant enjoy it now - even though I love it!

No phone number or email showing on your advert. If this information was not published in the original advert, or elsewhere, this raises a very interesting question. How did they make contact? The obvious answer is your contact details were accessed by the scammer having access to an account on TM.

As an aside a Google search on "trishia_foxx@yahoo.com" reveals a number of attempted scams by Tricia Foxx..

Good to see you were not sucked in.

Hmm I had nt thought about how they got my contact details just presumed that it must have been there. That is pretty bad if they have an 'in' some how to people's private details, which is a real worry.

I think TM has been compromised - I have had two emails (3 & 4 times the same) and the wording is the same as before

"Hello , Please let me know if the car is still available for sale and if it's possible to come and view it. regards!"

so someone is on the ball in Malaysia

Cheers

Did the "proper" enquiry form disclose a user name?

It's well worth looking at the email headers of suspect emails to see where they really emanated. Drop me an PM if you need any help with this.

Yes - 'samata1' but the previous two yesterday where ghosted as I rang them to see if it was they who made the enquiry.

Yes - I have checked the headers as done a whois and all that - TM seem to be on the case as I am reporting each instance to them and I have sent it of to abuse@yahoo.com.au but they wont do anything much either.

So just another time waster - ha ha - sent an email to the address he sent me but have heard back......... :smt013

What else can I do - this is the 5th one this week??? :-(

Thanks for your interest - the last guy gave up on me.

I really dont think the are totally based in Malaysia as the timing does not match - they are 5 hours behind us - OZ - I can understand

I guess I am their target as I have a few cars on TM as I act for a Trader (one of my clients) - I guess that why he gets me to do his listings (apart from not being computer literate) HA HA

Cheers

His reply from david.sallama@yahoo.com.au

I am happy to read from you,i really appreciate it,i am an oceanographer and am currently at sea at the moment,i am buying the car as a gift for my dad, i want to make it a surprise for him,he wont know anything about the car until it get delivered to him,i can only pay through pay pal as i don't have access to my bank account online and i don't have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my pay pal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through pay pal,So pls kindly get back to me with your pay pal details, some pictures and the service history so i can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i have a pick up agent that will come around to pick the car up after i have made the payments for the car and also,he will come to sign all the necessary papers for me....... :-({|=

I will keep it going for a while......

I cant understand why they keep asking the price?

They are not very well organised

I have played this fish along

"thanks so much so how much are we talking about now?"

Is the latest.......wait for it - I want the false email so I can forward to PP

low and behold I got a reply straight away which convinces me they are in NZ with friends in Malaysia

"Thanks so much for getting back to me and for concluding about selling this item to my dad,i really appreciate it,i am going to transfer the money into your account right now but before i do that,i will like to add the sum of $900 to the amount we agreed on and i will like to know if you would help me to transfer it to my shipping agent via western union money transfer here in united kingdom.I would ve love to do this myself but currently i am very busy on ocean because i am a sailor and there is no where on the sea i could send the money and the only payment method the shipping agent accepted is western union.I would be very happy if you would help me and i want you to get back to me with your reply so i can transfer everything together and get back to you as soon as POSSIBLE
will also pay all the paypal charges."

Cheers

That's The Reason

All along they have been looking for a way to get you to pay them some money.

They pay you with a stolen credit card or compromised NZ Bank Account. You forward the $900 (don't be surprised if they "accidentally" pay you more, just another way to get you to pay) via Western Union, the baddies pick it up from where ever they happen to be, and in due course you will be invited to repay the money which was stolen.
