Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
I think it's unlikely. Too easy to be tracked down. Many of the local scammers have come unstuck for this reason.cabalnz1 wrote:What do you think about them having people in NZ?
Google, the answer to so many questions!

Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
Well it has been going on all day - I have used my old ploy that I cant send the money without an ID or PP copy and this is what I got back:
I am finding that the major number of scammers using this passport number 000078004 (there is a host of them around the world) are bloomin NIGERIANS not Malaysians.
That explains why they only want $900
Cheers Pete from Peter

Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
Further to my protestation I said the Post Office would not accept the 'dubious' passport and so he sent me the latest on for his 'agent' which matches the first name he gave me but wait for it....
Yes but you wont believe he is on the Dubai Police Site 10 most wanted in Dubai for MURDER = hell what are we getting into here?
Of course I have reported into the Dubai Police
What next?
Any suggestions Peter?
Cheers

Joshua Bruce is from Melbourne. His passport was one of those stolen and copied by Mossad and used in the murder of Hamas figurehead Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January this year. So the person in the photo is an Israeli agent, not Bruce.
Adelaide newspaper report...
You might want to point out to the scammer that his "agent" is wanted for murder, and possibly not the most reliable person for the job.

Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
Yes - I have read all the stories especially from his Mum. Anyway this is the third name all at the same a/d in London - I have nearly run out of time wasting so I might have to give in soon and stop being a complete dumbo!!
Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
My message to him:
Hi
I have to ask why you are using an UK agent and how well do you know him – will he be the one that gets the money from Western Union?.
How is he going to make contact with us in Auckland and where is your Father going to pick up the car.
We have very good agents who will deliver the car anywhere in NZ as long as the paperwork is signed.
We will need your Father drivers licence number before you take the car as we need to put it into the new owners name and LTSA require that information
he replied
"Thanks so much for the mail and i hope you have a wonderful weekend.i just want you to know that i really trust my agent as he has been helping goods for long so as soon as you send the shipping fee to him he will contact you and come over for the pick up and about the signing of document he knows how to work that out so he will come over as soon as you send the shipping fee to him.
thanks so much for the business and be sure to kindly let me know as soon as you help me send the shipping fee to him."
my reply
Mate – what are you talking about – it costs more than $900 to travel to New Zealand………

Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
So far I have given him an inflated price $26000 not $21000 and the wrong place to pick up the Car = Auckland

That early start gives TVNZ the opportunity to feed you a lot more TV commercials. It always pays to check kickoff time in advance. What a pity it was such a lacklustre game in the end, but well done Spain. They deserved the win.cabalnz1 wrote: Can I complain about TV here?? Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
From what little I saw the Closing Ceremony was very good - typical TVNZ - thats why I normally watch TV3 - agreed - Spain were the best
Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
Hi Guys
We were targeted only last night with our van that is listed on trade me. We received a text from an interested party asking if the vehicle was still available, and to please email them at clrainsbury@gmail.com which we did. We received reply:
Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, What is the lowest price you can sell the car and i want you to get back to me with more pictures because i am not available at the moment, i am in Malaysia and i will be using the car here in Malaysia. I will be handling the pick up of this merchandise through a legitimate shipping agent that has their headquarter situated in Malaysia. The reason why i am buying the car abroad is because cars here in Malaysia are very expensive and you can only get them in new so i hope you can understand why i am willing to buy the car from you because it's better than getting one here. The car will be picked up after
you receive the full payment.
Hope to read from you asap.
Thought it was weird with them wanting MORE pictures, but apparently they wanted pics of the dash wtf?? We said there were plenty of pics already...
We received:
Oh yes i got it now, i just checked this on the site, however the only way we can conclude this transaction is via PayPal, I have been duped via check and bank transfer before and i am unable to deliver cash, that is why i selected PayPal (http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) as a mode of payment because PayPal is the best online payment,so both of us could be on the safer side, awaiting your decision because i really need to pursue this buy sincerely and i will be expecting you to get back to
me with your PayPal email address and your full name for making the payment. Paypal would contact you about the pick up details after the payment has been done.
Regards
By now, it was 1am this morning, so we told them we wanted to conclude the transaction in the morning.
Their response:
Hi, I am satisfied with those i saw on trademe, i can make the payment now, that ain't no problem, all you need to do is to send me your paypal email address and your full name for making the payment.
We were tired so left this open till this morning. Lucky for us! With a few misgivings, just before we were going to send the relevant info, we googled Trade Me Paypal Car Scams...and what do ya know!!! Here we are.
After reading the stories here, to stop the BS, I e-mailed the scammer back saying the vehicle was stolen last night and gutted by fire - in Hamilton! We are in Christchurch so anyone with even a couple of brain cells and a little local knowledge would know this is highly improbable.
We have not received any reply as yet - maybe they have gotten the message?
Disappointingly, There doesn't seem to be anything posted on the Trade Me site drawing any attention to this sort of scam. This could go a long way to preventing this from happening. Equally, by reading the postings here, there doesn't seem to be anywhere else to turn to either.
We have now spread this to our friends and family (thanks Facebook!) so hopefully they will pass on the message as well.

Re: Malaysian Trademe/Paypal Car Scam
Well done - true it is a shame no one is even interested - TV3 News did a quick report about a month ago but it still it goes on. I have not had one for a couple of weeks but have had my Paypal account hacked and a whole lot of transactions made - totally unrelated to this lot and Paypal have had to pay me back several thousand dollars USD which is not good for them.
I would have thought these idiots would have the message by now.......
But no..............
